Thomas Kindade, an American painter, is known as the "painter of light."

About The Painting - The Lights of Liberty

As per Thomas Kindade's website, he is the "most-collected living artist" in the United States of America. His paintings are mass printed and sold as posters and prints across America. Many art critics have rubbished his paintings as merely kitsch, lacking any substance.

Kinkade's imagery emphasizes the simple pleasures of life while espousing inspirational messages. As a devout Christian, Kinkade uses his painting talent as a vehicle to spread love, peace and joy among people.

The Lights of Liberty is a painting that is distinctly Kinkade. Glowing highlights and use of vibrant, effervescent pastel colors and illustrated in an impressionist style, the Lights of Liberty is a beautiful impression of hope, freedom and political stability.

The bucolic, idyllic settings of forests, landscape, snow, lights and a shimmering, mesmerizing sunset add to the allure and beauty of The Lights of Liberty. The painting was the first one to be drawn for his new Season of Lights Collection back in 2000. He intended to present The Lights of Liberty to both the incoming and outgoing first families of politics in America.

According to Kindade, “The Lights of Liberty celebrates the national security and prosperity that flows from decisions made in this building.” Further he says, “Perhaps then, the "lights of liberty" suggested by my painting's title could be either the peaceful lights of an American home, or the symbolic glow of the tree, which is suggestive of our precious religious freedoms. I pray that each year, this painting will cause many to celebrate the blessing of the season of lights.”

All of Kinkade’s work is an effort to place emphasis on the value of simple and small pleasures in life. He also wants to “communicate inspirational, life-affirming messages through my work.” While Kinkade’s paintings such as The Lights of Liberty, are technically well-executed, his really virtuoso lies in being able to identify and capture the basic needs and desires of his niche audience.
